About Us

We, the "Naturgruppe Salix" from Switzerland, are a local association of people interested in nature and environment. Our organization was founded in 1999 and has about 100 members - single persons as well as families. It is managed by an executive committee, currently consisting of six persons. We are officially recognized as a volontary organization.

Where We Come From

Our organization is residing in Bronschhofen, a 4500-people village in the east of Switzerland, but it is also active in the surrounding municipalities, especially in the town of Wil. Wil is famous for its old town, which belongs to the best-preserved in eastern Switzerland, and has about 17'500 inhabitants. The region of Wil is situated between Zurich, St. Gallen, the Lake of Constance and the Alpstein mountains.

What We Do

According to the slogan "experiencing nature - with head, hands and heart", we carry out one to three events monthly. This can be field trips, hikes, lectures, nature conservation campaigns, convivial events, handicraft courses and movie evenings. A membership in our association is not necessary to attend our events.

With our wide-ranging activities, we intend to promote the interest, understanding and respect for nature in a large public, especially in children. We want to reach people on intellectual, physical and emotional level. Thus we hope to contribute to a sustainable development of our society an a long-term effecive environmental protection.

The Meaning of "Salix"

The latin term "Salix" means willow. We chose this name because the vitality and diversity of the willows shall be an example to our organization. There exist more than 400 species of willows worldwide. Some of them don't become higher than a few centimeters, whereas others can achieve a hight of 30 meters.
